Style Icon of the Week: Yannis Philippakis

Foals front man, Yannis Philippakis, is our style icon of the week.
style icon of the week
Yannis is of Greek and South African Jewish descent – a unique combination of cultures which add to his interesting and individual style. He launched his career performing in an adaptation of Marguerite Duras’ Moderato Cantabile, before deciding that music was his passion.

Foals was born after Yannis and the four other boys decided to make music that they could dance to rather than the generic electro records they were hearing at every party.

His effortless and laid-back style is an attainable look for all you Farah Vintage fans. Grab the Dunstan shirt for an effortless transformation! Available now at Urban Outfitters

Sponsoring Icons Award at Artrocker Awards

Farah has long been associated with style and was selected last year by Artrocker Magazine to work on their Icons series photographed by the legendary Gavin Watson. With the launch of their 1st ever Awards, Farah are sponsoring the coveted Icons Award. We will bring you an exclusive interview with the winner.

Marc Sallis, Editor of Artrocker said:

“A lot of awards these days are made to fill up time on TV and fill pages in glossy magazines spreads, Artrocker aims to make its first-ever awards about the music, the bands and giving the public a great gig with a line-up that will recall the heady days of The Brats and inject some much needed drunken fun and rock’n'roll back into the industry. The inaugural Artrocker Awards are cutting back the ever-expanding gloss and going for the true spirit of music; there will be no fireworks, stage tricks and countless re-takes, it’s quite simple Rock’n'Roll in its simplest and rawest form.”

Doors open at 8pm for the public.

We have 50 specially discounted tickets for the Live Show on Friday 2nd Dec at XOYO, London featuring Jim Jones Revue, Gruff Rhys, The Computers all Live and DJs Gary Numan, Tim Burgess, Jesus & Mary Chain, Tribes and more.

Get 2 Tickets for £20 (normal price £30) simply visit TICKETWEB here and input ARTROCKER in the Discount Code Box.

Offer Valid until 3pm Thursday 1st December.

Style Icon of the week: Elvis Costello

This week’s Style Icon is none other than the effortlessly cool Elvis Costello! With a music career spanning more than 30 years and a catalogue of  hits that include classics such as Watching the Detectives and Alison, Elvis Costello is a true icon in many ways.

elvis costello

As part of the New wave scene in the late 70’s Elvis Costello and his backing band The Attractions were influenced heavily by early jazz bands. Sporting a uniform of suits and ties, the band broke away from the rebellious look that had developed from the punk scene. Costello mastered the ultimate geek chic look with his thick framed glasses, skinny ties and suits, reminiscent of  the late Buddy Holly. Elvis Costello’s look which has stayed very much the same throughout the years makes him one of our favourite style icons!

To complete a true geek chic look inspired by Elvis Costello, try teaming our Wellington Jacket with a smart shirt and a skinny tie, chuck away the contact lenses and pop on a pair of thick framed glasses!
