As part of the New wave scene in the late 70’s Elvis Costello and his backing band The Attractions were influenced heavily by early jazz bands. Sporting a uniform of suits and ties, the band broke away from the rebellious look that had developed from the punk scene. Costello mastered the ultimate geek chic look with his thick framed glasses, skinny ties and suits, reminiscent of  the late Buddy Holly. The 25th-28th of June marks the 7th annual Glasgow Mod Weekender which is being held at McChuillis and The Brunswick Hotel.

Acts confirmed for the weekends festivities include The Laynes and Berry Tweed and the Chasers, as well as DJ sets from resident and visiting DJ’s, playing the music ranging from the earliest R&B sounds to ska, punk, soul and psych.

The sun won’t be the only thing getting people amped this weekend, for the Stag and Dagger festival is set to take over east London. Kicking off tomorrow, 20 venues will house over 100 djs, live acts and art shows to a public that is looking to be around 5000 strong.

Acts such as Filthy Dukes, Simian Mobile Disco, Miike Snow, Little Boots and Baby Monster have this weekend mighty fine and with the weather looking promising there’s no reason why you shouldn’t head down to Shoreditch to catch some live music!
