The Edit / DEREK RIDGERS
For our latest Edit, we caught up with legendary British photographer Derek Ridgers to talk subcultures, commitment, and five decades of capturing raw youth identity.
What started as an intense, self-driven passion back in the late 70s saw Derek fully immerse himself in London’s nocturnal scenes—out at nightclubs up to six nights a week and popping into three or four venues in a single night. From sweat-drenched punk pits and Soho’s Blitz Kids to the rise of 80s hip-hop, his camera has documented the characters, music, and scene-makers who refuse to fade quietly into the background.

“I’m always looking for characters who stand out, people who demand to be looked at — characters in their own film.”
